Organization Showcase: Valley Nature Center

The Valley Nature, a non-profit organization in Weslaco, Texas, has six hectares of native plant environment, with close to 170 species of birds, and many species of butterflies, turtles and lizards to be appreciated by visitors. The exhibition hall offers a close look at animals from the region, such as snakes, fish and tarantulas.

The center offers educational programs for students and workshops for teachers. More than 6,000 students are expected to participate this next year. Some of their educational programs for this year include the Speakers Series, which will take place every Saturday at 10:00 am, starting January 7, at the Valley Nature Center; these are repeated the following Tuesday at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, at 6:00 pm.

Also as part of their programs, on Sunday, February 26, the center will host an exhibit from Last Chance Forever: The Birds of Prey Conservancy, in McAllen.
