Pro Esteros Newsletter Covers Wetland Education Programs

_________

Wetlands around the globe have two things in common; they are environments rich in biodiversity and in cultural diversity. It is natural for all living things to be attracted to bodies of water; problems arise when this richness in biodiversity has to compete with the impact of human activities.

Education and public involvement is key when trying to reduce the level of conflict between human use and wetland preservation. Pro Esteros, a community organization dedicated to the preservation of wetlands in the Baja Peninsula, produces a newsletter that presents news about wetland restoration and preservation projects in the region.

In the most recent edition they showcase several EE efforts in the region, the first from Instituto Summer Tree para la Conservación y Educación Ambiental, A, C., an organization working in the Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve and the Valle de los Cirios Natural Protected Area.

The newsletter also talks about the collaboration between Pro Esteros and Centro Educativo Tipai, in a program that involves students in the process of water quality assessment, taking samples from Playas de Ensenada and performing tests in a real lab setting.
